Full Mouth Reconstruction
Rehabilitating the Bite
Nancy Long
Patient came in c/o sleep and jaw issues, not having enough room to breathe, migraines, and tinnitus. In this video, she talks about her journey from the New Patient exam, the care of the team, and the details of the diagnosis. She also talked about how the TMJ orthotics relieved her symptoms and she can be herself again. She elaborates on the pain relief and how she felt as a person with more energy to go out with her friends and travel more. Her long-term phase was restoring her bite with crowns, called functional rehabilitation. The teeth are crowns, but they are made to the more comfortable bite with her jaw being more forward and relaxed. She also has a fuller smile and whiter teeth which looks like a cosmetic makeover.
However, in this, she feels her face is more relaxed. The baseline approach was treating her symptoms by placing jaw in a more comfortable position to know where to place the teeth. She feels better, sleeps better, has no pain, a brand-new smile, and an overall different lady.

She has been a long-time patient for over 10+ years. She came to us with general dentistry needs. She was actually referred to us by Google. She was at a Christian rock concert and felt a calling from a message from this rock concert. She said someone reached out to her and said, “You deserve to have a better life. You deserve all the happiness.” She then googled TMJ pain centers near her and TMJ Plus appeared. She made an appointment, went through the detailed diagnostic process and talks about that in her video. She had broken teeth, as she had worn down her bite. She had jaw issues and headaches. So from her diagnostics, we knew that we had to build up the teeth that were worn down from years of clinching and sleep/breathing disorders that had caused her to grind her teeth, which then started breaking and slowly getting shorter. So when we placed her in a TMJ orthotic to help with her posture and her face symmetry, looking more balanced, we now knew the more comfortable bite where to place the crowns.
When we did crowns for all of her teeth, she's a very emotional type of story in the “I'm worth it; I'm now living my next chapter in life; I want to focus on me; I'm out there dating; I'm dancing; I’m skydiving!” She is living life to the fullest and she couldn't do that unless she didn't have pain. She really highlights the story of the process, as the patient is doing everything that we asked her to from how she cleans her teeth differently, to the TMJ orthodics, to building up her bite with functional rehabilitation, which means that the orthodic allowed us to center up the joints and muscles, which made her neck and face look more symmetrical. We were able to then place the teeth in the right functional position. So again, cosmetic dentistry can really be the root cause.
Why did you need cosmetic dentistry? Why were your teeth broken down? What were the underlying factors? She went from orthotic, to sleep device, to then the full mouth of crowns and her smile make her look like a completely different person. She almost feels like years were taken off of her life. Literally and figuratively, how she feels. She is very humble and grateful, and has a great testimony of “you are worth it!”
William “Mark” Brachey
The video for Mr. Mark , he is a testimonial page that is interview style with Dr. Coats and Mark. He's been a long-time patient, well over 15 years. He's always had sleep apnea issues. He had a mouth device to help keep his jaw forward and didn't like his C-Pap machine, due to being claustrophobic. He also had snoring issues, which really bothered his wife. It was definitely impacting his health from a heart standpoint, with just being awake and alert. After years of different crowns breaking from clinching, his teeth were worn down, so the teeth had to be built up to help with his breathing space.
After wearing the sleep apnea mouth guard for a period of time, he decided to fix the teeth that had been destroyed from the sleep apnea and acid reflex, also to help with his clenching. We then placed him in an orthotic to help build up his bite to reduce his muscles from clenching. He already noticed the difference in how his posture was, even his breathing by holding his jaw forward because now he would have something to hold himself in the day, not just a night device. From that, we built up the teeth with crowns, the functional rehabilitation of the bite. Again, he looks like a cosmetic case, with a wider, brighter smile and his teeth now show. He had no gap between his front teeth but again, his purpose was more of breathing and sleep.
So now after having the teeth built up, he doesn't have jaw pain. He's sleeping better and now his teeth are in the correct position because we have treated the root cause in the airway. Mark has been a patient and trusted me for years and it also was a great help to have his wife supporting him to make his decision, where he was now putting himself first in enjoying his retirement. So now he's living his best life doing cruises and now he's known as Mr. Smiley. He is definitely catering to the retired gentleman crowd that now is living his best life after being a sleep apneic patient.
