The 4 Benefits of Ceramic

The 4 Benefits of Ceramic Dental Implants

Team Dental Implants

Dental implants are replacements for missing or damaged teeth. A dental implant consists of an artificial tooth root that is surgically placed in the jaw. A crown can be attached to the implant to replace one natural tooth at a time. Multiple dental implants can support bridges and dentures.

Ceramic dental implants are an alternative to traditional titanium implants. There are some key features of ceramic implants that make them the right choice for certain patients. Consider the top 4 benefits of ceramic dental implants to help you make an informed decision.

1.Hypoallergenic.

Ceramic dental implants are hypoallergenic. Some people are allergic to titanium or the other metals that are sometimes combined with titanium when implants are manufactured. But ceramic offers an alternative that causes no allergic reaction. This increases the chances of a successful dental implant that will last for many years or even a lifetime in most cases.

2.Promote Oral Health.

Ceramic dental implants do not attract bacteria the way titanium implants tend to do. This reduces the risk of developing gum disease around your dental implant. Ceramic dental implants are typically a one-piece prosthetic, meaning the root and crown are attached when it is placed. This eliminates the space between the crown and implant that could trap bacteria.

3.Natural Appearance.

For patients with thinner gum tissue, ceramic implants look more natural. Ceramic is the color of your natural teeth and roots, so they won’t show through the gums the way titanium implants can. Ceramic resembles natural tooth enamel for a realistic prosthetic that replaces a missing tooth and restores your smile.

4.Holistic.

Ceramic dental implants are considered to be holistic because they are biocompatible and do not contain metal. Holistic dentists often prefer ceramic implants over titanium because they promote overall health and wellness and reduce the risk of allergic reaction, infection, and other negative health implications.

Are There Any Disadvantages of Ceramic Dental Implants?

There are a few disadvantages of ceramic dental implants, such as:

  • Higher Cost. Ceramic dental implants may cost a little more than titanium dental implants. The cost is not significantly higher, but it is noticeable. For many patients it is worth the higher cost for the specific benefits ceramic implants offer.
  • Lack of Versatility. The fact that ceramic dental implants are in one piece makes them less versatile than titanium dental implants. They can only be placed at the exact proper angle, which requires the expertise of a highly trained and experienced dentist.
  • Lower Availability. Not as many dental practices offer ceramic implants, so it is more difficult to find a practice that provides this option. Look for a holistic dentist, as they are more likely to carry them.
  • Subject to Fracture. Ceramic implants are not as strong as titanium. Although they are capable of withstanding the same bite and chewing force as titanium implants, they are more likely to fracture when subject to chronic teeth grinding or dental injury.
